We are subject to Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019. Where we handle the personal data of people in the European Union or the United Kingdom, we also apply the standards of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What information we collect

We only collect what we need, and we tell you why at the point we ask for it.

  • Information you give us. Your name, email address, telephone number, organisation, and anything else you choose to tell us when you download a resource, request a booking, enquire about a service, subscribe to updates, or contact us.
  • Programme applications. Applications to AVODA Blue are made through the AVICS platform (avics.io) and are governed by the information notice presented there. That platform may collect additional information relevant to your application and, if you enrol, to your AVICS score.
  • Technical information. When you visit the site, our hosting provider and analytics tools may record your IP address, browser type, device, referring page and the pages you view.
  • Cookies. Small files used to make the site work, to remember preferences, and to measure how the site is used. See “Cookies” below.

We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16, and we do not ask for special-category data (such as health, religion or political opinion) through this website. If you volunteer such information to us, we treat it with particular care.

  • We do not rent, trade or share your details with third parties for their own marketing.
  • We do not add you to programme updates simply because you downloaded a resource. You have to ask for that, by ticking the box.

Who we share it with

We share personal data only with the service providers we need in order to run AVODA, and only so far as they need it. These currently include:

  • Hosting: Hostinger, which stores this website and its database.
  • Application platform: AVICS (avics.io), which handles programme applications, assessments and payments.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics, which helps us understand how the site is used.
  • Email delivery: the mail service that sends you the file or reply you asked for.

Some of these providers operate outside Uganda, including in the European Union and the United States. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on the safeguards those providers put in place, such as standard contractual clauses.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of AVODA or others.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries and download requests: up to 24 months after your last contact with us, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
  • Programme-update subscribers: until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed.
  • Student, alumni and client records: for as long as the relationship continues, and afterwards for as long as our legal, accounting and audit obligations require.
  • Analytics: according to the retention period set in our analytics tool.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct it if it is wrong or incomplete.
  • Delete it, where we have no overriding reason to keep it.
  • Object to, or restrict, how we use it.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where our use rests on your consent. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did lawfully beforehand.
  • Receive a copy of the data you gave us, in a portable format.
  • Complain to a supervisory authority. In Uganda this is the Personal Data Protection Office.

To exercise any of these rights, email inquiries@avodagroup.org. We will respond within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, so that we do not disclose your data to someone else.

Cookies

We use cookies to make the site work, to remember your choices, and to understand how the site is being used. You can refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so may affect how parts of the site behave.

  • Essential cookies keep the site working and secure. These cannot be switched off.
  • Analytics cookies tell us which pages are read and where visitors struggle.
  • Marketing cookies may be set if we run advertising. These are only used where permitted.

How we protect your information

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the site, restrict access to personal data to the people who need it, keep the site and its software up to date, and take regular backups. No system is perfectly secure, but we take these obligations seriously, and if a breach ever affects your rights we will notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.

Links to other sites

Our site links to other services, including AVICS (avics.io) and AVODA Fund (avodafund.org). Those services have their own privacy notices, and this policy does not cover them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we will say so clearly, and where the law requires it, we will ask for your consent again.
